Rebuild Green 2030 at URC2025

This is the repost of the original article made by our partner Alissa Bankovska, CEO of SYNCHRO SPACE on linkedin.

When Ukraine’s recovery is discussed on the global stage, words like “sustainable,” “digital,” and “resilient” are often repeated. But turning those principles into real rebuilding tools requires something more: alignment. Not just between public and private sectors — but between what’s needed on the ground, what’s technologically possible, and who is ready to act. That alignment is exactly what Rebuild Green set out to create on July 12 at Sapienza Università di Roma , during its side event at the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2025.

Hosted at the Faculty of Architecture, the space itself symbolized what the gathering was about: designing for the future, while anchored in community and expertise. The event brought together over 60 architects, technology companies, public officials, urban strategists, and municipal leaders from 12 countries. It was organized by SYNCHRO SPACE and FIABCI-Ukraine — the two organizations driving the Rebuild Green 2030 initiative — in collaboration with Modulina Straw Panels (Lithuania) and Holland ConTech & PropTech (The Netherlands). The support from partners FIABCI, The International Real Estate Federation, the Green Building Council Italia and Ukrainian Green Building CouncilIL PUNTO Real Estate Advisor / CORFAC International , voice of space , PropTechBuzz , Italian PropTech Network , EightySeven (ex-PropTech Lab) and CTV Roma 2025 made it possible to transform a side event into a focused, outcomes-driven working session.

This was not a conference within a conference. It was a practical intervention — designed to pair real projects from Ukrainian municipalities with green construction technologies and international partners capable of bringing them to life.

The keynote speech from Paolo Matteuzzi , Director at Zaha Hadid Architects , offered more than inspiration. It reminded the room that sustainability is not an aesthetic add-on — it’s a core architectural responsibility. His reflections on post-crisis design and energy-conscious urban regeneration resonated deeply with the Ukrainian context.

We are sincerely grateful to the project presenters whose work brought the vision of sustainable reconstruction to life: Mykhaylo Teneniv, Mayor of Teofipol, Kateryna Pylypchuk, Modulina Straw Panels business strategist, who introduced the Green Energy Industrial Park with an eco-housing district for IDPs; Anzhela Makeieva, Acting Mayor and Secretary of Irpin City Council, who presented Irpin’s Industrial Park project; Sergio Grazioli (Mangini) and Mike Deveria (ABCU) for sharing the concept of the Apostolove Rehabilitation Centre; Nicolas Ziesel from the Budmo team, who introduced the educational and cultural centre in Severynivka; and Rafaella Corrieri from U-House, who presented a flexible eco-housing typology for rapid post-crisis recovery. Each case offered not just a challenge, but a specific opportunity to integrate green materials, digital monitoring systems, and smart urban infrastructure. These weren’t abstract policy models — they were funded pilots, land-ready concepts, or community-led designs that could break ground with the right technical partner.

The technology showcase segment brought to the stage some of the most forward-thinking solutions in the ConTech and PropTech landscape. From 3D-printed modular housing to AI-powered energy efficiency systems, international innovators demonstrated how their technologies could be applied in the urgent context of Ukraine’s reconstruction. Pauline Bellec of coat-ing shared a modular skin system that enables fast retrofitting of buildings for energy efficiency. Representing R2M Solutions, Lorenzo Cifariello emphasized the importance of interoperability and performance-based design in EU-funded innovation. Mehmet Yigitcan Yesilata of Sensgreen presented a solution that leverages sensors and machine learning for smarter indoor climate management. And Fabrizio De Petris of To Be Srl introduced Li-Fi — a technology enabling data transmission through light, ideal for energy-efficient, wireless communication in dense urban infrastructure. These voices, along with other contributing teams from Compost Board, 2050 Materials, EarthFokus, Ishtaan RE Advisory, and Marbalum, Azure Printed Homes highlighted not just individual innovations, but a shared readiness to engage in collaborative, high-impact rebuilding — right where it’s needed most

The discussion designed to explore what it truly takes to turn innovation into implementation, Moderated by Kateryna Pylypchuk, business strategist of Modulina Straw Panels and vice president of FIABCI Ukraine, brought together public and private perspectives around the table. Antonio Campagnoli, opened the conversation by underlining how alternative finance tools like crowdfunding can unlock new models of rebuilding through public-private partnerships. Olga Royenko, co-founder of voice of space, Board member of SYNCHRO SPACE, and an EBRD-certified consultant, shared hands-on experience in navigating international cooperation, offering practical guidance for global companies seeking meaningful entry points into Ukraine’s rebuilding agenda. Yaroslava Boyarkina, advisor to the acting mayor of Irpin, presented Irpin’s best practices in recovery — showcasing how sister city partnerships and international ties helped catalyze action on the ground. Adding a production-driven lens, Žilvinas Bitinas, CEO of Modulina Straw Panels, reflected on their rapid-response housing projects and the Bucha forest school developed in collaboration with the New European Bauhaus.

To make sure momentum doesn’t stop in the room, the event also formally launched the Council of Territorial Communities — a new platform under FIABCI-Ukraine’s Rebuild Green Committee. Led by Yaroslava Boyarkina, the initiative brings together Ukrainian municipalities eager to lead the transition to sustainable reconstruction and build stronger bridges with international networks. Among the active participants are representatives from communities in Kyiv and Kharkiv regions, including Nataliia Havatyuk, Deputy Governor of Kyiv region, and Ihor Balaka, volunteer and head of the EBA in Kharkiv region.

The event’s second keynote came from Sergiy Drach, real estate investment advisor and representative of TERWIN Group, who introduced one of the most ambitious private-led infrastructure initiatives currently underway in Ukraine. Through the €700M WINHUB logistics network, TERWIN is developing Class A logistics hubs across multiple cities, setting a benchmark for large-scale, green industrial development. Sergiy also spoke about the broader role of private investment in Ukraine’s recovery — not only in delivering critical infrastructure but in establishing new models of resilience and sustainability. As the initiator of the Rebuild Green Declaration, he emphasized the importance of formalizing shared values and intentions into long-term commitments, and TERWIN’s signature served as one of the first in a growing coalition of signatories across Europe and Ukraine.

The day concluded with 22 organizations from 12 countries signing the Rebuild Green Declaration — a shared commitment to rebuilding Ukraine not only stronger, but smarter and greener. If you are interested to join the signature of this important document contact us on this matter.

In many ways, the Rebuild Green side event was a reminder that recovery is not about returning to what was, but co-creating what could be.

The next step in this journey takes place in September, during the FIABCI International Trade Mission – RE KEY: Italy 2025, where a dedicated Ukraine Track will continue the momentum, bring more cities and companies into the fold, and offer a platform for new signings and solution demos.
