MIPIM by the numbers…and what good numbers they are!
Dear FIABCI Community:
For those of you who were in Cannes, France for the annual MIPIM property exhibition — I hope you had a productive week and travelled safely home. For the rest of you, please consider adding MIPIM to your 2020 business schedule. This year’s 30th edition of MIPIM brought together 26,800 players from all sectors of the property industry, representing more than 100 countries. FIABCI members were among them.
Our presence at MIPIM continues to grow as can be see by the final numbers:
- 170 delegates
- 33 countries
- 5 continents
- 11 professions
- 38 speakers
- 20 panel discussions
- 8 networking breakfasts
- 5 cocktail receptions
Among the 170 individuals registered as part of the FIABCI delegation, a fair number of them were first-time attendees. This is exciting, as it shows our message is being received and our members are taking advantage of the opportunities FIABCI provides to come together to network and do business. The dream for FIABCI at MIPIM has come true; perhaps even surpassing the initial vision. There is no doubt in my mind it will continue to get better. Thank you to the Secretariat staff and the many others who worked hard to ensure a successful and enjoyable week for everyone.
FIABCI has a long history of participating at MIPIM, but our presence increased significantly in recent years. Our footprint has grown from a 9 m2 stand to our current 154 m2 pavilion. This year, we introduced a new, fresh design that allowed us to better spotlight FIABCI programs and Chapters — along with our sponsors and global partners. I want to thank our main sponsors: Grant Thornton, RECOM and GREM.
We kicked off the week in style with a Gala Dinner on Monday evening at the lovely Hotel Majestic in Cannes where more than 200 of the most influential real estate professionals from around the globe came together in one room. A big thanks to GREM, the Global Real Estate Market platform, which hosted the dinner in advance of the opening of MIPIM to welcome FIABCI delegates and guests and celebrate the official launch of GREM.
FIABCI’s alliance with MIPIM represents a tremendous benefit to FIABCI at all levels. It gives FIABCI international a first-class platform from which to promote our global initiatives pertaining to sustainable cities, affordable housing, digital technologies and more. It also provides a great opportunity for Chapters looking to raise their profile nationally and internationally, and — of course — it gives individual FIABCI members a deep discount on registration to a premier event that provides access to a wide range of programs, events and 20 exhibition halls in which to learn about markets and industry trends. This is a real, tangible value that FIABCI delivers to its members.
Within the FIABCI Pavilion, we organized our own three-day program of speakers who shared their expertise and insights on a wide range of topics. Many of these programs were future-looking….the future of our cities, the future of real estate technology….and the future of FIABCI. I’m confident in saying that we all left MIPIM more informed and with good insights into our industry’s future.
But MIPIM is not just about education. We began each day with a complimentary networking breakfast sponsored by FIABCI-Taiwan and Lily Chang. Each day also held multiple opportunities to connect with industry leaders and professionals from around the world. Among them was an afternoon cocktail reception in honor of FIABCI sponsored by MIAMI Realtors® where our own Mikhail Grin offered vodka and caviar to promote of our upcoming 70th World Congress in Moscow, which will focus on digital technologies. The week ended with a bon voyage reception for FIABCI members aboard the 31.5 m luxury motor yacht, Ylang Ylang, hosted by FIABCI Global Partner Lennar. You can find lots of photos and posts from the week on our social media pages!
Any way you look at the numbers, it was a very successful week for FIABCI. And I hope it was the same for those of you who attended. Mark your calendars now for MIPIM 2020: March 10 – 13. I will be there and hope you will too.
