Unveiling "Building Better Lives", FIABCI's Global Charter for Real Estate Professionals

FIABCI recently hosted an impactful webinar introducing its Global Charter for Real Estate Professionals, set to be officially launched during the General Assembly of the 73rd FIABCI World Real Estate Congress on 9 June in Miami. Aligned with the Congress theme of "Building Better Lives," the charter was collaboratively developed with Global Partners including UN-Habitat, 2000WSCA, and researchers from Chaire ETI – IAE Paris, Panthéon Sorbonne Business School. The primary objective of this initiative is to raise awareness among real estate professionals about sustainable responsible real estate practices, as outlined by the Core Values and Fundamental Principles detailed in the charter.

Guest participants such as Susan Greenfield (FIABCI), Neil Khor (UN-Habitat), Roger Jann (2000WSCA), Catherine Gall (Chaire ETI – IAE Paris, Panthéon Sorbonne Business School), Christine Auclair (UN-Habitat), Mahmoud AlBurai (FIABCI-Emirates), Andreas Binkert (2000WSCA), and Prof Carlos Moreno (Chaire ETI – IAE Paris, Panthéon Sorbonne Business School) contributed to the insightful session. They discussed how the charter can shape the future of the real estate industry, sharing the latest trends and strategies for creating better lives and communities worldwide, and provided a comprehensive overview of the document. Specifically, the speakers emphasized the four Core Values: Inclusion and Equality, Governance and Safety, Resilience and Capacity Building, and Sustainability and Circularity, as well as the ten Fundamental Principles: Reduce Energy Use, Use Sustainable Materials, Prioritize Public Transportation and Soft Mobility, Empower Local Communities to Thrive, Promote Water Conservation, Reduce Waste, Promote Biodiversity, Create Public Space, Promote Architectural Quality, and Ensure Effective Maintenance and Smart Governance.

All panellists concurred that a better urban future and, consequently, better lives begin with a value system that guarantees the well-being of all individuals. A principles-based approach to planning, constructing, and managing cities and communities is crucial. This approach ensures that cities, at the very least, fulfill their fundamental responsibilities in areas such as inclusion, safety, accessibility, resilience, and sustainability.

The Global Charter for Real Estate Professionals stands as yet another testament to FIABCI's unwavering commitment to fostering sustainable development, preserving cultural and historical heritage, and forging a collective response to today's pressing challenges, including environmental protection and mitigating global warming.

The webinar recording is available on the FIABCI YouTube channel for those interested in accessing it.
