FIABCI–TAIWAN Morning Talk on “The Expanded Metal Mesh”
On November 5, FIABCI–TAIWAN organized a professional morning talk seminar titled “The Expanded Metal Mesh: Design, Fabrication, and Construction Applications”, featuring a keynote presentation by Ms. Eva Y. F. Lin, Executive Vice President from Taiwan’s Shang Kai Steel.
Ms. Lin introduced the Expanded Metal Mesh (EMM) as a versatile architectural material characterized by its ease of construction, flexible design potential, and superior carbon efficiency. She elaborated on the rationality and economic advantages of applying EMM in various building types and urban environments.
Through an extensive series of case studies, Ms. Lin demonstrated the material’s adaptability across a wide spectrum of applications—including residential buildings, office towers, public facilities, and even urban street furniture. Her presentation also covered the manufacturing process, forming techniques, and on-site installation practices, offering participants a comprehensive understanding of both technical and design aspects.
The session highlighted the practical potential of Expanded Metal Mesh in contemporary architecture, emphasizing its role as a sustainable, aesthetically versatile, and construction-efficient material. Members expressed strong interest in further exploring its integration into sustainable architectural practices in the future.
