FIABCI advocates for sustainable urban growth at WUF 12
FIABCI proudly participated in the 12th World Urban Forum (WUF 12), an international event that convenes thought leaders, policymakers, and innovators dedicated to sustainable urban development.
A key highlight of FIABCI’s involvement was its successful side event, “Planning and Financing Inclusive and Sustainable Neighbourhoods,” co-hosted with its Global Partner Harley&Dikkinson. This important event centered on fostering strategic collaborations and discussing innovative solutions to build inclusive, sustainable, and resilient neighborhoods: one of the pressing challenges in urban development today.
The event featured a high-level panel of speakers, including:
- Professor Carlos Moreno, renowned for the 15-Minute City concept, shared transformative ideas on urban planning for livable, accessible cities.
- Budiarsa Sastrawinata, FIABCI’s Main Representative to the UN, who emphasized FIABCI’s UN-aligned initiatives to promote inclusive planning.
- Luca Bertalot, representing the European Mortgage Federation - European Covered Bond Council (EMF-ECBC), discussed European financing solutions for sustainable urban projects.
These insights reflected the importance of global collaboration and innovation in addressing the challenges of sustainable urban growth.
FIABCI extends its gratitude to all speakers, attendees, and facilitator Roger Jann (2000-Watt Smart Cities Association) for contributing to the success of this event. Special thanks also go to Christine Auclair, Lead, Advocacy and Campaigns at UN-Habitat, for her invaluable support over the years, which has been instrumental in fostering FIABCI’s collaboration with UN-Habitat and the World Urban Campaign.
Additionally, FIABCI acknowledges the dedication of its leadership team, including Immediate Past World President Budiarsa Sastrawinata, President-Elect Antonio Campagnoli, Vice-President Lily Chang, and the national delegates from Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Ukraine, whose active participation highlighted FIABCI’s commitment to driving sustainable urban solutions.
WUF 12, held in Cairo, brought together a global community of changemakers committed to addressing urban challenges under the theme of "Sustainable Urban Development." FIABCI looks forward to continuing its efforts in collaboration with partners and stakeholders to shape a better future for cities worldwide.
