Speaking at the awards ceremony, FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence Awards Committee President Professor Chen Ming Cheu praised the winning projects for their creativity and innovation and was thrilled to see an increment in the total number of projects. Topping up his excitement was the participation of Austria, a first-timer in the competition this year who had also taken a big leap to organize their first and very own Chapter Awards on October 18th last year.

He further elaborated that the entire process took two steps, first by the judges then by the oversight panel, involving 54 judges from more than 29 countries in total, with the call-for-entry beginning in July and ending in December 31st every year. He mentioned the projects are judged not only for the architectural, design and construction aspects, but also on their impact on the community and environment, as well as their financial and marketing success.

Additionally, in a continuous effort by the award committee to keep up with the property market trend, a new award category has been added this year: Mixed-use Development. Professor Chen Ming Cheu added that in 27 years of history, this is the first year FIABCI World President took part in the oversight panel judging meeting.

Assen Makedonov, FIABCI World President 2018–19, said in his speech that the winners are worthy of being ranked as world excellence by helping the world to become a better place to live, work and enjoy.

He further added that there are 19 FIABCI Chapters that organize their local or Chapter awards. Such endeavours create extraordinary synergies in promoting knowledge and networking within the real estate industry.

Mr. Makedonov pointed out that recognising achievement in property development is just one way through which FIABCI embodies this ideal.

He added it is projected that by 2050 about 2.5 billion more people will inhabit our cities and nearly 70% of the world’s population will be living in urban areas.

“This urban growth represents greater challenges for our urban centres and the property industry has a responsibility to contribute to the solutions,” Mr. Makedonov said.

He thanked the awards committee, secretary general, judges, oversight panel, auditor, sponsors, the prix secretariat, as well as the organising committee of the 70th FIABCI World Real Estate Congress for their time and effort in staging a successful congress and awards ceremony.
