Medair: Updates from our Direct Member on Typhoon Mangkhut

Medair team has finished its emergency response to Typhoon Mangkhut today and the team will be departing Philippines in the coming days.
Overall, the team composed of shelter, logistics, communications, and emergency response distribution experts was able to support 2,252 people (503 households) in remote villages belonging to the Illocanos and Agta tribes. Each household was provided with an emergency shelter kit, empty rice bags to collect what remained of their harvest, and 7kg of rice for one week for each family. Distributions required both sea and air assets to reach these communities located off the beaten path.
In addition, Medair was able to rehabilitate three schools that were used as shelters. Each of these schools had roofs damaged by the typhoon, but the team was able to provide local builders of each community with disaster risk reduction techniques and repairs were made. As of this week at least one of the schools is back in session.
Super Typhoon Mangkhut struck the eastern coast of Luzon, the largest and most northern island of the Philippines, on Saturday 15 September, with devastating force.
