FIABCI Highlights Uganda’s Role in East Africa’s Real Estate Growth
FIABCI World President Antonio Campagnoli recently visited Uganda, along with European Mortgage Federation – European Covered Bond Council (EMF-ECBC) Secretary-General Luca Bertalot, by invitation of the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development of Uganda, to discuss opportunities and prospects in Uganda’s housing and mortgage market. The FIABCI and EMF-ECBC leaders met with Minister, Matia Kasaija, Minister of Finance, and Dr. Michael Atingi-Ego, Governor of the Bank of Uganda.
Among the key points of discussion were:
- Establishing a potential mortgage fund to expand access to affordable capital
- Creating a Uganda Housing & Finance Platform for scalable housing projects and sustainable finance
- Strengthening public-private collaboration and governance in the real estate sector
- Growing regional cooperation and exploring a potential FIABCI chapter in Uganda
On the visit to Uganda, FIABCI World President Antonio Campagnoli said: “A truly inspiring visit in East Africa, where we witnessed firsthand the energy, ambition, and strategic importance of this region in the global real estate landscape.”
“East Africa is not just an emerging market — it is a region with strong potential to shape future global dynamics, especially through partnerships and knowledge sharing,” Mr. Campagnoli added.
These exchanges build on the Memorandum of Understanding signed between FIABCI, the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development of the Republic of Uganda, and The Association of Real Estate Agents Uganda (AREA-Uganda) during the 75th FIABCI World Real Estate Congress in Lagos, Nigeria, as well as bilateral meetings earlier this year during the 5th Real Estate Future Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and MIPIM Cannes 2026.
FIABCI remains committed to strengthening these connections to exchange views on investment, collaboration, and the role of real estate as a driver of sustainable development, while supporting the growth of local chapters as platforms for international cooperation.
FIABCI looks forward to continuing this journey at the 76th FIABCI World Real Estate Congress, taking place in Vienna, Austria, from June 8 to 12, 2026.
